Wisconsin’s Northwoods’ Drug and Alcohol Addiction Hits All-Time High
AODA Counselors Urgently Needed To Fight Addictions & Heal Communities

The Northwoods of Wisconsin has an urgent need for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) counselors. Gookomis Endaad—or grandmother’s house in Ojibwe—serves the tribal community of Lac du Flambeau and surrounding communities, just west of Minocqua, which are struggling with rising levels of addiction.

With 18 beds, Gookomis Endaad is a place where you can make a difference in a relaxed, home-like setting. Where you can provide personalized, intimate care. Where you can balance caring for people with caring for yourself. Where you work in a family-like setting with co-workers who support each other and help others strive for excellence while saving lives and bettering futures.

We have a personal interest in successfully treating the entire person in overcoming alcohol and other drug addictions. We don’t want any more of our family, friends or community to lose their battle with addiction.

Because there is such an urgent need for alcohol and other drug addiction services, Gookomis Endaad has a lot of support from tribal leadership and programs as well as its health center. We seek AODA counselors and other professionals who will help us grow and coordinate with other programs and services to fully integrate our care into the community. There’s plenty of opportunity for AODA counselors and support staff to explore innovative partnerships with those who share our passion for healing people through holistic approaches to care.

This is the perfect atmosphere for anyone who wants to make a difference. We want our residents to feel comfortable and at home and we want our employees to feel the same. We invest in professional development and training opportunities for our employees and we believe in growing and promoting from within.

How do we approach care at Gookomis Endaad?

At Gookomis Endaad, we treat the whole person and not just the addiction. We use a combination of evidence-based practices and cultural activities to help people overcome substance use disorders and reconnect with their identities and values. From individual and group counseling to traditional ceremonies, crafts, storytelling, and more, we work with each individual to meet them where they are in life.

Gookomis Endaad is a residential substance abuse treatment center that incorporates the Ojibwe culture into its program. It is located on the shores of a beautiful lake, where you can enjoy the natural scenery and wildlife. It offers a comfortable, home-like setting, where you can feel safe and relaxed.

Gookomis Endaad means “Grandmother’s House” in Ojibwe, and that’s exactly how we want you to feel when you come to our facility. We treat our residents and our employees like relatives. We work to heal residents from the inside out. While they are at Gookomis Endaad for treatment, we want them to feel safe and comfortable so they can focus on healing and improving their future.

From AODA counselors to reception, we never treat our residents as numbers or statistics. Regardless of their background or why they come for treatment, they are here to better their health and make better life choices. And we are here to support each individual based on their particular situation along their path to recovery.

We support our employees because employees who feel supported will pass that care and support to the residents who we are trying to help.
